July 2, 2008

This morning Camdyn woke up hungry and in good spirits. He ate all his eggs and 1/2 a pancake.. and drank 240ml of juice. Great news! the nurse came in and told us the dr. says he is allowed up to 1,000ml now :) Also, the surgeon (that performed his surgery) came by to look at the irritation Camdyn has been complaining about on his neck. He says it does not look infected, which is wonderful. He stated he will have a nurse take off the old dressing and place a soothing ointment on it and replace with a new bandage. We tried to give Camdyn a sponge bath this morning - but he became quickly irritated, and we had to stop short of giving him his full bath. He is just so exhausted. He has slept more today than he has been awake. Which is good for him... he needs the rest. The dr. just came by and said he is going to give Camo an injection in his i.v. of lasix. This should encourage Camdyns kidneys to begin to work again, which means he will tinkle. The dr. says to not be disappointed if this does not work immediately. Sometimes, it can take several dosages (which can only be given once every 8hours). Please pray!
This afternoon, Camdyn was given another dosage of lasix... since the first go 'round didn't work. The dr. said for us to not be discouraged, this is not uncommon to take a while before helping the body to "tinkle" on its on. Camo was craving quesadilla's today, so his daddy picked up some on his way back to the hospital :) he ate about 1/2, which is great!
The nurse had been by this evening to replace the old bandage from the incision (on his neck, from the surgery). She placed a topical cream on it and is letting it 'air dry'. This seems to have really given Camdyn some relief. He didn't feel up to eating any dinner tonight, but was in great spirits.
Camo was really exhausted tonight when it was time to go to sleep, but after about 15 minutes of fighting it... he was out like a light.
Have a good night sweet baby, you remain in our prayers and thoughts each day and night. We love you with all our heart and soul. You are our world and we are right here with you, every step of the way through this. You are a blessing to us. We thank God each day for blessing our lives with you. We love you infinite (and beyond!!!) :)

If we can do anything let us know. I know how it is to rejoice over a small amount of improvement and take any amount you can get. We love each one of you. Give Camo a big hug and kiss for us.

Laura,

It was nice to meet you today...I work here in the PICU, and I'm sure you see so many faces coming and going, you may not remember me, but I'm the friend of Alison & Rod's who stopped by a little bit ago.

I'm glad to read your experience here has been a positive one, despite the emotional aspects that are unavoidable. Camo's in good hands. My daughter's had three surgeries here, and there's no other place I'd rather be with a sick kiddo than Cook Children's. Camo seems like a little trooper, and I'm glad to know you guys have such a great support system in place. If you need anything while you're here, I'm here M-F from 8-5 at x 4193. Just call. I'll come check on you again tomorrow, and every day, until he's transferred out. I'll say an extra prayer for your strong little man, and for all of your family.

Vanessa

Camdyn,
We hope you tinkle soon. Gracie and I prayed specifically for you to be able to tinkle before we had dinner tonight. Gracie has been having fun looking at your pictures and learning to say your name. I've told her all about you and we pray for you every night. I hope you got our balloons and that they brightened your day a little. We love you!
